Backwoods BBQ Gold Sauce |

Ingredients
- 3 Cups Prepared Mustard
- 10 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 8 Tbsp Tomato Paste
- 6 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper (more if you want it hotter)
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 Cup Water
- 1/2 Cup Honey
- 3 Tbsp Liquid Smoke (Note: See Gowans Observations below)
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- Optional:If you want to “KICK IT UP” put 1/2 cup Bourbon in it!
Instructions
- Bring everything to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes…Taste and enjoy

- If you decide to prepare the above recipe I suggest you omit the liquid smoke until the very end, and add it a little at a time while tasting the sauce. 3 tablespoons is a LOT of this very strong flavor – I suspect it would be overpowering in that amount of sauce.
- To be fair however, I’m not a fan of liquid smoke. I prefer to use a transfer medium like garlic or onions by smoking them and then adding them to the sauce. For me, this results in a more natural, mellow smoke flavor than the bottled distillate. You can also use smoked salts, although obviously this limits how much smoke you can add without making the finished product overly salty. Smoked salts work great for seasoning vegetables!
