If you love to grill then there’s a good chance beer brats frequent your menu for football parties and camping trips. The great thing about beer brats is they’re great year round. This recipe adds a bit of a fall/winter kick by adding a tasty spiced apple cabbage topping. Full recipe and video below. Enjoy!
Beer Brats:
8-10 brats
1 stick butter
1/2 onion (chopped)
2 bottles beer
Combine all ingredients in a disposable aluminum pan. Set the Grill Dome up for direct/indirect heat using the Half Moon Rack and Half Ceramic Stone. Preheat and stabilize the Grill Dome to 300°. Place the pan on top of the Half Moon Rack for 30-45 minutes to allow the brats to braise in the beer mixture. After that, increase the temp of the Grill Dome up to about 425°-450° and grill the brats over open flame for some char. Place back in the beer mixture and keep warm until ready to serve.
Spiced Apple Cabbage:
1/4 stick butter
1/2 onion (chopped)
1/2 head green cabbage
1 cup apple cider
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp caraway seeds
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté the onions until light brown. Add the cabbage and cover with lid and allow the cabbage to reduce and soften for about 15 min or so. At that point, add the apple cider, apple cider vinegar and caraway seeds. Continue cooking on a medium to medium-low heat until the cabbage has reached your desired consistency. Top the brats with the cabbage and enjoy!
