Yaki-Imo also know as Japanese Sweet Potatoes
  • Japanese Sweet Potatoes
  1. We used Japanese sweet potatoes which are yellow inside unlike North American potatoes which are orange inside. You can find them at some Japanese grocers most likely. We were lucky enough to find a box of them.
  2. Stabilize the GD at 400 degrees. Set your timer for 20 minutes. Place the sweet potatoes on the GD after washing and scrubbing them in the sink. Don’t use aluminum foil. When complete, use tongs to flip over and roast another 20 minutes. Test for doneness by poking with a bamboo skewer. If it slides through without resistance it’s done.
  3. And finally a few links:
  4. Here is a Yaki-imo vendor in Japan singing the traditional street vendor song during the autumn/winter months (think U.S. Ice Cream Man).
